The Limnological Research Station is part of the Department of Hydrology and a member of BayCEER (Bayreuth Centre for Ecology and Environmental Research). While often referred to as a "station," the lab facility is located on campus. Our research combines field and laboratory experiments to explore the coupling between abiotic and biotic processes in aquatic environments.
Our focus is on microbial communities and their role in biogeochemical cycling, with particular attention to microscopic algae (phytoplankton), their interactions with surrounding bacteria, and their response to anthropogenic stressors.
