This summer, the Limnological Research Station kicked off BACSHIFT, a new DFG-funded project investigating how environmental change affects algal microbiomes and their interactions with their hosts.

As part of the project launch, the station hosted two Erasmus+ students from Spain for an eight-week research internship. Together, we established and tested a mesostat platform for continuous algal cultivation and carried out the first pilot experiments.

The internships were also funded by the CERFA Traineeship Programme, which supports research internships in Germany for selected students from Spanish universities.
